Quebec Team

In collaboration with clubs, coaches and Sail Canada, Quebec's Sailing Federation (FVQ) is working to develop an annual program aimed at providing a support structure allowing the full development of Quebec athletes and help clubs put in place the programs necessary for their development.

Thomas Staples

49er

Thomas and William, a dynamic sailing duo, forged their partnership since childhood, formalized at age 13 in the 29er class where they shone by winning two U18 national champion titles. Quickly, they ventured into the senior world of the 49er class, taking their ambitions to the Olympic heights. Key members of the Quebec sailing team for five years, their journey is marked by notable successes. Today, they are traveling the international circuit in preparation for the 2024 and 2028 Olympics.

William Staples

Hunter Hoy

49er

Hunter Hoy is a young sailing enthusiast having sailed for several years in a 29er. Today, he sails in the 49er, alongside his teammate Arie Moffat. In addition to his Olympic ambitions, Hunter also competes in Waszp, a type of foiling boat.

Jacob Townsend

ILCA 7

Jacob started sailing at a young age, accompanying his father on his boat. From the age of 10, he took up competitive sailing. He marked his first participation in an international regatta at the age of 14, traveling to the Bahamas to represent Canada at the North American Championships. In 2020, in the middle of the covid period, he took the turn to laser (ILCA), a discipline in which he quickly distinguished himself. Since then, he has taken part in two world championships and in 2023, he won first place in the U21 category at the Canadian championships. Jacob harbors ambitions to join the Canadian sailing team and represent his country at the Olympic Games.

 

James Huynh

Formula kite

James started kiting at 9 years old, foiling at 14 and started kitefoil racing at 18. Today, James trains daily and accumulates racing experience in order to achieve high performance in the racing world to reach the Olympic Games in 2028.

Nicola Gilmour

Ilca 6

Nicola started sailing at the Gatineau River Sailing Club summer camp at the age of 9. His first regatta was Fruitbowl at the age of 13 in a C420. At the age of 16, Nicola made the transition to the ILCA 6. This year she is looking forward to spending more time sailing and competing in bigger regattas, including international events.

Louis Hupé

ILCA 7

Louis Hupé, started racing in 2012 as an optimist. After joining the regional center of La Rochelle in France in ILCA 6 in 2018, he continued his journey as a laserist by returning to the Espoir center in Marseille in 2020 in ILCA 7. As a training partner, his goal is to learn from others and teach others. His goal for next season is to be top 5 in the various North American championships.
